Mery Iralda's story
Mery Iralda is 41 years old, single, and has two children. She lives with her children, aged 18 and 10, in Chillanes canton, in Bolívar province. The 'Unión y Progreso la Colombia Baja' community bank has fifteen members and is located 90 minutes from our cooperative. The members of this community bank work in farming, growing cacao, rice, corn, soy, bananas, oranges, etc. Mery is a farmer. She has two hectares of land where she sows cacao, rice, corn, soy and bananas. She makes her purchases and sales in San José del Tambo every weekend. she also raises chickens. Mery is requesting this loan to buy more land, seeds, manure and supplies to keep her crops in good condition so that she can sell them later. This loan will help Mery to financially cover her needs. She faces very frequent challenges in the form of competition and pests. Her dream is to buy a house and more land so that she can sow and produce more than she does now and increase her income. In her free time, Mery enjoys going out for walks by the river with her children so that they can cool themselves down.
