Magben.comm.hosp.iv Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of medical practitioners from one of the hospitals in Makeni.

They have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of 8,600,000.00 SLL to invest in projects that their mere salaries alone are not enough to finance. For example, some will use the loan to buy a plot of land or house-building materials, while others will use it to pay their children’s school fees, etc. At the end of each month, they will repay SMT/Kiva using their monthly salaries. Their finance officer is directly responsible for repaying the loan on their behalf.

Fatmata, the leader of this group, is 39 year old, was born in Port Loko, a town in northern Sierra Leone, and is the married mother of four children – two in secondary school and two in primary school. A professional nurse for four years now, she has applied for this loan in order to pay her children’s school fees and invest the rest in her house-building project.
