Isla Negra Group's story

This community bank is called "Isla Negra" and is made up of 18 members who are involved in many different lines of work, including selling artesanal crafts and clothes. All of them live in the city of San Antonio. Ana Luisa is a member of this community bank and can be seen in the photo sitting in the middle of the first row. She has long black hair and she is wearing a grey jumper and holding a brown bag on her lap. She has been selling artesanal crafts including paintings, letters, earrings, necklaces and clothing for twelve years. She makes her own artesanal products out of glass and also purchases products from other well-known artisans, going on to sell these products at the artesanal fair. With this loan Ana Luisa will purchase glass so she can work in the glass fusion style, which is the art of styling glass at high temperatures. She will also buy ashtrays, cups in various styles and vases in different sizes, both large and small. Her business goals are to sell her artesanal works exclusively, and to create quality products. Ana Luisa lives with her husband and her two children who are 17 and 12 years of age. Her dream is to expand the market stall that she operates at the artesanal fair. Ana Luisa is very happy and grateful for the services offered by Fondo Esperanza as it will allow her to invest in her business and generate larger profits. She says that the community bank that she belongs to is very united and the group is becoming more and more committed to each other. San Antonio is one of the main traditional port towns in the Valparaíso region and is located on the central coast of Chile. It has become a very important town for fishing and selling fish and seafood. Because of the commercial activity on the dock of the port, there is also a high unemployment rate.
