Mavis, 43, is a widow with three children aged between 15 and 24, one of whom attends school. She runs a retail business in Kwa Zulu Natal of Mandini in South Africa. In the photo, she is pictured raising her hand. She has been in this business for three years, selling red meet and spices. She also receives income from the government via a child support grant. She requested this loan from WDB and Kiva to buy red meat and chicken heads and feet. Mavis says that the extra income from this loan will help her to build a house for her family and to send her child to tertiary level.
