Jitegemee Group's story
Dorotea, who is in her early 50s, is married with four children. The youngest is in college. She has been running a doughnut business for 30 years now. She works from 6am to 9pm daily and is able to make a small monthly profit. This will be her 6th "motisha" loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. A Motisha loan is a product offered by Tujijenge Tanzania that allows borrowers with good credit ratings to pay back their original loans faster and receive extra money before their original loan term has ended. She used the previous loans to pay school fees and buy few kilos of baking flour for her business and for household expenses. She has paid back all her loans successfully. She hopes for a loan to buy 50 kilos of baking flour, 30 kilos of sugar, a sack of charcoal and a bucket of cooking oil to make more doughnuts. Her dream is to one day start a chicken business. She will share this loan with her loan group "Jitegemee" which has a total of 13 members, who will hold each other accountable in paying back their loans.
