16 De Julio Group's story

The community association "16 DE JULIO" ("July 16th") will begin its third cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Santiago II. It is made up of nine members and is led by a board headed by Señora Eustaquia. The businesses that community association members lead are varied, among them are: selling blankets, selling ornaments, selling spices, selling flowers, selling hosiery, shop-keeping, an Internet store, and tailoring. Señora Eustaquia says that it's been six years ago since she joined Pro Mujer, and the entry came at the invitation of a lady. Today she has a business selling flowers, a business that she learned from her mother. The loan that she will now be taking out is to raise capital (to buy flowers). These products are bought from the market in Rodríguez Street (the shopping area in the city of La Paz). Later she sells them at retail in the same market. This type of work allows her to generate resources to support her family as much as possible, as she is married with two children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes its health. In the photograph, Señora Beatriz does not appear pictured due to cultural sensitivities.
