"Gye Nyame" Trust Bank Group's story

Yaa describes herself as a neat and hardworking woman. She is a 39-year-old mother of four children. Her husband is a commercial driver. Yaa is currently the group leader of “Gye Nyame” Trust Bank. She is a petty trader who has been selling smoked fish and hides for the past twenty years. Smoked fish is a locally roasted fresh fish to make it more flavorsome for the preparation of soups and sauces. She also engages in farming as her second business to make extra income. She is excited to be receiving the loan, which she plans to invest into purchasing more cartons of fresh fish to smoke and serve her customers. She anticipates increasing her profit level and also expanding her market. Yaa hopes to increase her savings to buy a piece of land to start building a house to accommodate her family. The other members of Yaa’s group are traders and service providers. As the leader of the group, she ensures regular meeting attendance and repayment of loan installments.
