Santa María Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase thread, crochet needles and other necessary supplies to make embroidered products.

Santa María Group's story

The committee of women named Santa Maria was established on July 10, 2008 with hard work and dedication. They are in their 8th loan cycle. They work together and in solidarity within the program. In addition to their individual work, they also raise funds with the goal of having some capital within the group and they help themselves mutually to achieve their objective of economically supporting their families. A very moving story is that of Angela: she is in a wheelchair and she dedicates herself to crocheting. She did not have a wheelchair when she first became involved with the foundation and she could not leave her home because of her disability. Thanks to the loan and her colleagues in the committee she was able to acquire her wheelchair and thus greatly improved her business and management. She tells us that with this loan she will be able to improve her family's economy. Currently, her family only has the income from her work as a comedian on a radio show. Angela mentioned that their activities with field partner Fundacion Paraguaya are very important since they were able to develop their work skills in addition to improving their self-esteem as working mothers.
