A loan helped to buy supplies to make her woven garments, and to buy chicken feed.

Maria Concepcion's story

Maria Concepción is a single, hardworking woman who is striving to have a better future and to support herself, always with the help of the Almighty. She has a business raising chickens. She buys the newborn chicks and sells them when they are grown. In addition to this, she sells items made from Brazilian gold such as necklaces and earrings, because these are easily sold due to the fact that so many women buy them. She is also very good at making güipiles (embroidered woven dresses typical of Guatemala.) It takes her a month to make one of these dresses using the Marcador technique of weaving, and they can be sold for about $150. Maria requests a loan to buy supplies to make her woven garments. In the current season she will sell earrings for women who want to look good, and she needs to buy feed so that she can continue to raise her animals. Her dream is to expand her business.
