Yury Monserrate's story
In La Pila in the Montecristi canton the La Pila community bank meets every two weeks. This place is very well known in the province and on the country for its rich cultural tradition. A large vareity of artisanal crafts can be foun din this place, made by its inhabitants following their tradition customs. Here we meet Yury. She is 22 years old and is in a common law marriage and a mother of a beautiful 2 years and six month old daughter. Her husband is a merchant who sells artisanal craft. She has been in the community bank for three years. She is the secretary of the bank and shelikes it because she gets along well with all of the other members. Besides taking care of her young daughter, she is also a merchant. She buys and sells artisanal crafts such as ornaments and ceramics. She has a store in her parents in law's house where she sells all types of artisanal crafts. She works from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with her husband. He is in charge of finishing the objects since they buy them semi-finished. She has been in the business for three years and it has gone very well for her. She buys her products from area artisans. This loan is to buy more artisanal crafts in all types and designs to supply her business. She has spent three years in the community bank and she likes it because they started their business with the first loan. Her dream is to have her own house, since they live in their in-law's house.
