Djantoyerela Group's story

The members of the Djantoyerela group are all married women who average 52 years of age and six children each. They live in extended traditional families in the village of Yolla, sub-prefecture of Fana, in the Koulikoro region (second administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They know one another as neighbors and through ties of kinship and friendship. They sell condiments, gathered fruits, and cereals. This is the Djantoyerela group’s 13th loan cycle with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution. Kadiatou SANGARÉ plans to buy condiments from resellers in Fana. She conducts her sales in the village, for cash or credit, to a customer base consisting of both men and women. She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 25,000 FCFA, which she will use to make loan repayments and pay contributions to social ceremonies, the remainder to be reinvested in her business activity.
