Upendo Kahembe Group's story
Zamuda M. is an entrepreneur and president of the « Upendo Kahembe » business group. She is a 53-year-old widow and mother of seven, three of whom are still in school and four of whom run their own households. Her husband passed away a long time ago. Zamuda M. sells clothing (womens’ boubous and childrens’ clothing). She sells her products in a store, from her home and sometimes to customers who are government employees, particularly officials from public corporations. She has just celebrated her four-year anniversary of being in operation, supported by a loan from the MFI Hekima. This new loan will help her increase her inventory with new merchandise from Tanzania (50 boubous, 50 childrens’ outfits, 30 mens’ boubous, jeans, including Loïs brand jeans, and the remaining funds will help her cover customs charges, etc.). She also hopes to expand her business, to be able to afford to build a house and to buy a jeep for greater mobility. Zamuda M. would like to thank Hekima for its work on behalf of widows living in poverty without access to conventional banks. It’s worth mentioning that the “Upendo Kahembe” group is majority female.
