Aurora Elizabeth's story

Every two weeks, the Ilusiones community bank meets in El Progreso neighborhood, in the city of Portoviejo. This is a very densely-populated, poor, urban area of the city. It is known as 'the prison sector' as Portoviejo Women's Prison is located in this area. Here we meet 23 year-old Aurora who is married and has two children aged 5 and 2. Her eldest is starting school this year. Her husband works in a tire repair shop. Aurora sells all kinds of clothes. She makes her sales door to door and also from her home as some customers come to her. She tells us that she has a lot of customers who make orders with her in advance. Aurora works four days a week delivering her products and collecting payment since she leaves her products with her customers on credit and collects payment every two weeks. She buys her merchandise in Guayaquil every two weeks. She has been in this business for four years and it has done quite well. Aurora will use this loan to buy pants, blouses, t-shirts and other products that her customers have ordered this fortnight. She has been a member of her community bank since it was founded and she likes it because, thanks to the loans, she has made progress in both her business and her personal life. Aurora's dream is to own a large store.
