Llankay Huayna Group's story

The "Llankay Huayna" community bank is located in the province of Urubamba, department of Cusco, Peru. One of the members is Mayda, a 34-year-old divorced mother of two children, ages 13 and 9. She makes a living as a city administrator in Urubamba. She has worked there for the past two years, and along with this job she also sells Unique-brand cosmetic products, which she has been doing for seven years. She takes advantage of having friends in the city and gives them the cosmetic catalogs so they can place their orders. She is requesting the loan at this time to add to her funds so she can purchase the latest computer for her children to help with their studies. She plans to repay the loan with her salary. The other members of the community bank make a living in teaching, raising small animals, dentistry, selling vegetables, running a restaurant, running a general store and running a hostel. In the upper left corner of the group photo is Joaquin, who arrived a little late, so his photo was taken by himself because two of the other members had already left to get back to their jobs. The members value and are grateful for the loan, and they promise to make their payments on time.
