A loan helped to buy coffee.

Maria's story

María, 32, has been living with José for the last 10 years; they have two children: José and Mayori who they care for with much love in their own home located in Chincana-San Ramón (Peruvian central jungle). The work which this selfless woman does is farming. Her main crops are bananas and citrus fruit that she fertilizes, weeds and cares for with her husband who helps her unconditionally. Each harvested crop is sold to retailers in the capital’s central market where, besides selling her own crops, crops amassed from other farmers are also sold. Similarly, during coffee harvest time, which takes place once a year, María buys ripe coffee beans from various farmers and pays 8 soles per kilo, on average. She then resells to a renowned coffee processing plant at a higher price thus obtaining an additional profit because her main concern is the cost associated with her eldest son’s education. She is a member of the “Mujeres de Éxito” (Women to Success) communal bank and this is her second loan with MFP where she is grateful for the trust her fellow group members once again place in her. María is preparing for the new coffee harvest season when most of the coffee farmers will harvest ripe beans that she’ll buy with the money requested thus supplying herself for her sales.
