Jose Alfredo's story
Jose Alfredo A. Q., 44, lives with his wife and children in Chillanes Canton, Bolívar Province. He has three children. The “COOPERATIVA LOS MOREROS” (Blackberry Farmers Cooperative) communal bank has 12 members and is located 20 minutes from the office in Chillanes. The members of this communal bank are farmers, especially of blackberries, tomatoes and corn. The older ones have been farming for over ten years and the other members are just starting out in this activity. Jose farms blackberries, tomatoes and corn in large amounts. He makes his purchases in Chillanes and sells at the Chillanes Sunday farmers market. He asks for a loan to buy farming supplies: seed, manure and fertilizer. Help from the loan will help him economically to meet his needs. The challenges he faces are infestations, illnesses and weather variations. His dream is to own a vehicle to transport his products to sell. He likes playing sports; he’s an enterprising person.
