Maria Theresa D. is from the village of Simmimbaan. She is 23 years old. Maria Theresa is the leader of a six-member group loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is Maria Theresa D. Group. Maria Theresa is married and has two infant children. To make a living, Maria Theresa plants and harvests a variety of vegetables for sale. Maria Theresa is just starting this business. In 2011, Maria Theresa joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. Maria Theresa is requesting a new loan of 5,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase fertilizers such as manure. This will be the first loan taken out by Maria Theresa from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan to improve and expand her business. About ASKI: ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 38 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas.
