York Road Traders Group's story
Please meet members of the “York Road Traders” group from Waterloo, a small town in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in order to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions. Aminata is the leader of this group. A native of Waterloo town, Aminata is married to a soldier and they have two children. Aminata has been a businesswoman for many years now and she sells palm-oil and cosmetics. With her share of this loan, she will buy bags of palm-oil and cosmetics in large quantity to add to her business. (Also included in the left of the photo is loan officer Edna B. C. handing over the loan to the borrowers).
