A loan helped To buy school clothing, specifically knitted items, pants, gym clothes, and underwear.
Maria is a member of the Luz de Esperanza communal bank that is in the city of Curicó. She works as a street vendor selling articles of the home (dishes) toys, plants (cactus) but mostly used and new clothes. She sells at an open market. Maria worked for 33 years in the public sector as a paramedic. She had a vascular accident that kept her from walking for a long time and because of this she received a disability pension. Currently she is healthy and receives medical treatment. Three years ago she started working as a street vendor. She buys most of her merchandise, mostly clothing, from wholesalers in Santiago to keep costs down. And in Curicó she buys house wares and plants. During the school season in March, she does very well. She will use the loan to buy school clothes, specifically knitted items, pants, gym clothes and underwear. Maria lives with her daughter who also works, and this gives the home another source of income. Maria’s dream is to have a permanent stall where she can sell her products to improve her earnings and have a more comfortable life. And this is also her reason to continue working in her business. For Maria the financing terms from Fondo Esperanza have been a great support for her business since they allow her to pay off her loans. She also enjoys the meetings at Fondo Esperanza and she has meet very good people with whom she has become friends. Curicó is in the Maule region, in the center of the country. The climate is Mediterranean and Curicó is thought to be one of the most pleasant areas of the country. It is also known for its wines and beautiful surroundings. Despite the increase in work in the area, it is still, according to the last census, one of the poorest in the country.
