Bokk Jom Group's story
The solidarity group BOKK JOM was established on February 16, 2000. It is composed of 16 women from the same administrative department, but not from the same neighborhood. They get together every month for savings and loaning activities, as well as to discuss perspectives for their Banc Villageois. The group belongs to the Keur Khaly Banc Villageois. Mrs. Fatoumata D. (standing on the far right in the photograph, wearing a white scarf and glasses) is the group leader. She's 47 years old, married, and the mother of seven children. She also has to support two other children of her husband. She retails palm oil, dried fish, and peanut paste. She also does embroidery. She has an experience of more than 6 years in commerce. This loan will bolster her self-financing capacity in order to expand her business. Her goal is to support her husband in providing for their children, while at the same time boosting her savings.
