Constructor Group's story
The "Constructor" community bank is a group of seven women and one man who are beginning their second loan cycle. The members were getting to know each other better over the first loan, and in general it was positive, which is why they have to decided to continue as a community bank and request a new loan from Kiva partner Pro Mujer. Each one of the members has his or her own business, as a service provider, producer or merchant. For example, they sell hats, sow and sell jackets, sell potato flour and corn, sell jellies, and make craft belts. The community bank elected a board of directors consisting of a president, Octavia; a treasurer, Basilia; and a secretary, Adela. Octavia, the president, lives with her husband and two children. She makes a living selling detergents at flea markets in the area where she lives. The markets are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and she sells items from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. She started the business after her sister-in-law suggested it. When asked what attracted her to the community bank, Octavia said, "I enjoy everything. I only feel bad if someone is late or doesn't bring a payment."
