The community bank named "Senor D. la Agonia" has already had 4 years together and it is maD. up of hard working, enterprising women who are on a constant lookout for opportunities to get ahead. And with daily effort they look to proviD. a better future for their kids. The community bank meetings take place every thirty days. The majority of the members live in the community of Taray, located about 30 minutes from the city of Cusco. The business activities of some of the members are, for example: craft sales, buying and selling livestock, the sale of chicha drink, raising and selling guinea pigs, hardware store, produce sales, and general store. Fernanda is 43 years old and she has three children. Fernanda has a restaurant. It has been many years since she first opened the small restaurant from where she sells breakfasts. She used her own savings to set up the restaurant. She serves approximately 20 clients every day. Fernanda requests a loan in the amount of 1,500 nuevos soles. Her restaurant is only modestly equipped with only the most basic inventory and she would like to use the loan to purchase more soft drinks, rice, sugar, and various other types of inventory. Margarita is a member who is not shown in the photograph and the community bank is in unanimous agreement to exempt her from participating in this loan.
