Azucenas De San Antonio Group's story
This group is called "Azucenas de San A." ["Lilies of San A."] because the women in this group really like that type of flower and because the group is located in the community of San A. in Mexico state. The group is comprised of 10 members. Cristina A. is one of them. She is 57 years old and sells vegetables, particularly nopales [prickly pear cactus]. She has eight children total: three girls and five boys. Only one - a 16 year old boy who attends primary school - is still dependent on her. Cristina is requesting this loan to buy nopales, as the price is currently high due to a scarcity of that product. She would also like to begin cultivating her own crops in order to bring in a better income. Most of her customers are from Atlacomulco, which is a place where people from different communities gather to buy whatever products they need. As she requests this loan, Cristina feels very excited that she will be able to invest in her business. She is a very hardworking person who does not give up in any situation; she faces anything with enthusiasm. Her husband died recently but she knows that the way to get ahead is to provide her son with a good education. She hopes that he will achieve his goals and that he will do well and act responsibly in whatever he does.
