Emilce Ester's story
Mrs Emilce Ester Martínez lives with her husband and three children in the Las Nieves neighbourhood, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods of the Barranquilla city. She is a merchant of general merchandise. She started selling products to her friends through catalogues 15 years ago to help her husband with some income for their home. The business grew, and on the suggestion of her customers she started buying merchandise in Maicao, a commercial city in the northern department of La Guajira. She currently does not travel because she has specialized in the sales of shoes and women's clothing which are provided directly from various workshops in Barranquilla-this is why her sales prices are very competitive. This businesswoman attributes the success of her business to the fact that she does not just sell, but also advises all of her customers as to which style of clothing and shoes they should buy to be more elegant. Some of them even request her opinion when they buy in department stores. This is the second loan that Mrs Emilce has applied for from la Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, and her first loan on Kiva. She plans to invest it in the purchase of jeans, shirts, pants, skirts, shoes and women's accessories. Her monthly sales volume is $ 3.000.000 COP. The expected profitability is 37% and the time to turn over her accounts to cover charges is 50 days. This businesswoman dreams of opening her own store in which she could offer her merchandise and do, with greater comfort, what she most likes: being a woman's image consultant.
