Dios Ante Todo 1, 2, 3 Group's story

Sadley is the coordinator of her group, Dios Ante Todo 1, 2 & 3 (God first), located in a village where most of the citizen are Haitians. She lives in a modest home with her five children. She says that her most difficult challenge is to work hard because she needs to give her children what they need. With this effort, she can make extra income and help her long-term partner. In the meantime, she will enjoy to eat and rest. Sadley is excited to be taking her first loan with Esperanza. She has had her business for three years, starting with some capital she saved by working after she came from Haiti. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business by buying clothing, in different size, and for men, women and kids. She will re-invest the profits in her business because this is high season for sales. She dreams of having her own house and return to Haiti. This Esperanza associate began with us because she invested in her business and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in in the rural areas surrounding La Romana, where the sugarcane harvest and the tourist industry dominate the economy. This area, like nearly all impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic, suffers from unreliable running water (none of which is potable) and electricity. The woman with face pic in the right corner is one of the member, she was absent at the time the group photo was taken.
