Gladys Patricia's story
Every fortnight the members of the 'Ave Fénix' community bank meet in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí, which has been known for many years as the city of the royal tamarind trees. Gladys has been a member of her community bank for 4 loan cycles and she is very happy because, thanks to the loans, she has managed to make progress in her business and get her family ahead. Gladys is 41 years old. She is married and has a 5 year-old daughter who is in her first year at school. Her husband is a taxi driver and owns his own taxi. Gladys studied at university and has a degree in education sciences. She also learned dressmaking many years ago. Gladys has a small sewing workshop where she has been sewing all kinds of clothes for many years. She says that she most enjoys making children's clothes. She works on orders and also makes uniforms for schools and institutions. She tells us that she has had her workshop for five years. This loan will be used to buy fabric, thread and other material for her dressmaking. Her dreams are to continue working and to remain in good health.
