Agustina Alexandra's story
In the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí, known for many years as the City of the Royal Tamarinds, the Las Américas communal bank meets every two weeks. Here we find Agustina, 37. She is in a common law relationship and has three children who are 15, 10 and 7 years of age. The oldest is in secondary school and the younger two are in elementary school. Her husband is a mechanic. She is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because of the help she’s gotten from Fundación Espoir. She sells clothes. She also has a restaurant in her mother’s house. She works from Monday through Saturday. She prepares delicious dishes. Her customers’ favorite is seafood ceviche (marinated seafood cocktail). Besides, she takes advantage of the restaurant to sell clothes to most of her customers. She buys her merchandise in Guayaquil. Her mother helps her with the business. This loan is to buy clothes: pants, shirts, blouses, etc. Her dream is to have a great restaurant.
