Rebeca Josefina's story

Rebeca L. is a member of the “Nuevas Amigas” (New Friends) community bank. She lives in El Amarillo community, in Cumbe parish. San Luís de Cumbe parish is in the south-east of the city of Cuenca. The region's handicrafts are based on weavings, embroideries and sheep's wool yarn. These are used to make the region's traditional clothing. The people work in farming and raising livestock. Rebeca is 35 years old. She is married and has 2 children aged 14 and 12 who are both at school in the city. Her husband works is a construction worker. Thanks to their joint understanding, work and effort, they have managed to build their own home. Rebecca does her housework and looks after her children. She also raises cattle and sells their milk to the milk trucks which come to the district. This is Rebeca's thirteenth loan through her community bank. She likes her community bank because she meets up with her friends, chats to them and has a laugh, leaving her daily routine at the door. This new loan will be invested in buying a cow. Her dream is to have no debt.
