A loan helped To buy fish, yucca, soft drinks, water, beer, and general provisions.
The Esperanza y Progreso (Hope and Progress) Communal Bank meets every two weeks in the canton of Montecristi, known for its rich precolonial culture and for its craft work, which is recognized nationally and internationally. It is the home of the famous Panama hats. This is where Digna lives. She is 79 years old and has been a widow for many years. She and her husband had 11 children, who are all now adults. One of her children lives in her house. She has a kiosk where she sells ceviche and encebollados (seafood soup), dishes which are enjoyed very much by residents of the city and of Ecuador itself. She prepares and sells these delicious dishes from 6am until 3pm, or until she runs out of food. She tells us that she has many customers who prefer her because of the seasoning she uses in her food. Her daughter helps her in the business. She also sells soft drinks, water, juices, and beer. This loan is to buy fish, yucca, soft drinks, water, beer, and other products she needs for her business. She has been in the communal bank for 21 cycles, and she likes it because of the help she has received all these years she has been part of it. Her dream is to have a great restaurant.
