Dolores Marilu's story
Members of the Las Divinas (The Divine Ones) communal bank meet every two weeks in the La California neighborhood of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí province, known for many years as the City of the Royal Tamarinds. Here we find Dolores, 48, who is divorced but who had three children in the relationship; all the children are now adults but one of them still lives with her and is studying at the University of Manta. She has enjoyed sewing for a long time so she studied Tailoring and Dressmaking obtaining a degree in Dressmaking from the Portoviejo Dressmaking Association. She has a sewing workshop in her home. She makes all kinds of clothes but she confesses that what she likes best is making women’s clothes. She sews for everyone who needs her services and works every day from 8am until 8pm although sometimes stays working until much later when she has a lot of work to complete. Her sister and another person help her. This loan is to buy a sewing machine and sewing supplies. It’s her 7th loan in the communal bank and she likes it because the loans are delivered with a minimum of paper work. Her dream is to have a house of her own because she currently lives in a rental.
