Libertad Group's story
The “Libertad” (Liberty) Communal Bank has successfully completed its second cycle. It is part of the Villa Exaltación Communal Center. It is comprised of nine members; there are eight women and one man. The board of directors is comprised of Rose Mary, the president; Mirtha, the treasurer; and Doris, the secretary. Doris is a 41 year old woman. She is married and has three children. The members considered her to be the right person to be the secretary. She sells different types of merchandise, which is paid for in payments. Her business is called Pasanaku. She learned this work from her mother-in-law 12 years ago. She sells in an itinerant manner to people she encounters at schools and at the market. She works every afternoon. This loan, for Bs. 2500, is to buy merchandise. The businesses of the other communal bank members are: mechanic, selling replacement parts, selling sweets, supply distribution, weaving blankets, selling general merchandise, selling and renting dresses, and a small eatery with snacks.
