Nighat Perveen's Group's story

Nighat Perveen is a resident of Gujranwala which is located in Punjab, Pakistan, and is known for its dairy industry. She is a 44-year-old widow who lost her husband as a result of a heart attack a few years ago. It was a very difficult time for her because all responsibilities were now shifted on her shoulders. But she never loses hope and decided to start an embroidery business using skills she learned from her mother as a teenager. Nighat Perveen couldn’t educate both her sons due to poor financial circumstances, but she taught the art of embroidery to her younger son who now rents a shop in the nearby market and runs an embroidery business. Her eldest son works in a factory for a low income. She has applied for a loan from Kiva's partner, Asasah, for her son’s embroidery business. With the loan, her son will buy an embroidery machine which will enable him to work better and fulfill larger orders on time. Nighat Perveen is a new loan user of Asasah and this is her first loan experience. She hopes that this will be a long-term relationship and she will continue getting Asasah support in the future. In the photo, the lady who holds a book (an Asasah passbook) in her hands is Nighat Perveen.
