Douglas's story

Douglas has a mixed farm in Kisii town, western Kenya where he has been farming for the last 10 years. His farm produces maize, beans, bananas, milk and tea which he sells to the local market and through Kenya Tea Development Authority. He also owns and operates two posho mills (used for grinding maize into flour-as pictured )in the same location. Douglas is 36 years old. He is married with 4 children who are aged between 7 and 17. All the children attends school. He recently repaid his second loan from Juhudi Kilimo of 45,000 KES which was used to purchase a posho mill. He has requested this loan of 80,000 KES to purchase a dairy cow and a posho mill. The extra income from this loan will go towards the education of his children. His major challenges have been dishonest employees and the fluctuating weather patterns that affect his crop production. In future, he plans to have at least 3 posho mills strategically placed in his local market.
