Porvenir Group's story

The “Porvenir” (The Future) committee was born two years ago thanks to the intervention and support of another committee active in the same area. The committee is in the San Luis neighborhood and during these two years of intense work has grown both socially and economically. They are well known in the area for being very hard working women. They went through a very difficult test last cycle because two of the members were unable to meet their weekly payments. Their loan responsibilities were taken over by the group and they committed to raise up the group they belong to successfully once again. The current group President is Benicia who manufactures clothing for women, men and children. She has her workshop in her home and is constantly sought out by customers who need service. She makes items of clothing according to the styles the customers request. This activity is very important for her because she earns good family income. However, she comments that it is very hard work and damaging to her eyesight; she already has to wear eyeglasses for everything. She wants to continue working in her profession, however, to continue to help her family. She is asking for the loan to buy sewing supplies for her items since she offers quality fabrics to her customers. She also has to buy other supplies like zippers, buttons and others.
