A loan helped To purchase and insure a dairy cow.

James's story

James is a 44-year-old man who is married with four school-aged children. He is a farmer from the town of Murang'a in central Kenya. He has been farming for the last 20 years. His mixed farm produces milk, bananas and vegetables, which he sells at a local market. He also earns income from his small-scale farming of coffee, which he sells through Yiego Society. James has requested this loan through Juhudi Kilimo in the amount of 64,800 Kenyan shillings (KES) to purchase a dairy cow. Being his second loan from Juhudi, he believes that this will help improve his productivity. The income from this loan will help him pay school fees for his children and make other developments in his family. In five years time, he wishes to acquire five more dairy cows that will improve his production of milk. He does, however, face the challenge of fluctuation in the prices of milk and coffee. He is grateful to Juhudi for the role they have played in increasing his asset base, which has improved his income.
