Las Victorias 2 Group's story

Juana is 43 years old. Her mother died when she was 11, and she took care of her three younger siblings, ages 8, 7 and 1. It was very hard for her because she was a girl. Juana is illiterate. She married at the age 19, and she has five children.

She got information about the credits that Chajulense Association of United Women for Life offered. She has obtained seven credits. With her first three credits, she bought pigs, a horse, and a piece of land and planted coffee and cardamom. From the fourth to the sixth credit, she invested her credits in the maintenance of coffee and cardamom. She bought seedling pylons, and she planted more land. With her seventh credit, she will continue buying seedling pylons and do maintenance of coffee and cardamom.

Juana is the leader of Las Victorias 2 Group. The group is composed of six women, all from the Ladino ethnicity. The group will invest their loan in food (33%), construction (17%), retail (17%) and agriculture (33%). On average, each member of the group has three children. The average age of the members of the group is 34 years; 33% are illiterate, 50% ended their primary education, and 17% passed their ninth grade.
