Sofia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour to sell.

Sofia's story

Sofia is 23 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, with 1 of them currently in school. For the past year, Sofia has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells essential items, like sugar, salt, cooking oil and water.

To help expand her business, Sofia has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour to sell, and will help Sophia to generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family. Sofia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand business into a wholesale shop.

Sofia is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Sofia who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
