Dulce Genesis Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy pearls, lace, and trimmings.

Dulce Genesis Group's story

Many of the 32,000 women who participate in Friendship Bridge's "Microcredit Plus" loan, education, and health services program run businesses in order to support their husbands in offering better living conditions for their families. One of these women is Venancia, 44, who is married and the mother of 6 children over 12 years old. She and her husband who is a nurse work hard to meet their basic needs for their children.

Since Venancia studied two grades, she wants all of her children to be successful professionals (three of her children have already completed high school). Venancia embroiders beautiful blouses and adds rhinestones to traditional blouses and aprons. Since she wants to expand the business and bring her product to one of the largest western markets in Totonicapán, she needs capital. She requests the 4th loan from Kiva to buy pearls, lace, and trimmings to make blouses wholesale.

The seven women of this "Dulce Genesis" Friendship Bridge Communal Bank are Mayan K'iche speakers and live in a rural area in the department of Totonicapán. They look forward to the monthly meetings because in this way they learn about business, health, family and women's issues. For women like Venancia, knowing about strategies to offer a new product to customers are relevant and immediately applicable to their lives. Every two months, a nurse provides health care services to women. Thanks!
