Chao's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy raw materials and jumpstart his hammock business to double his families income.
Chao lives in a small rural village in northern Thailand with his wife and seven children. He and his family face the same challenges as many rural villagers: obstacles to employment, dependence on uncertain crop prices and a lack of formal education. Somboon has been a subsistence farmer for many years, even though it requires difficult manual labor. Alternative employment is scarce, unless one is prepared to move to a big city, far away from family and familiarity. Chao’s wife began weaving hammocks first and as her income grew, he found himself helping her more and more. Finally, he decided to join her full-time! Hammock weaving has not just been an excellent alternative, but a significant improvement to Chao’s quality of life and provides a much needed increase in income. With his increased earnings, Chao helps pay for household expenses, transportation for his children to attend school, and even a little extra spending money for his children! This loan will help Chao to get his own hammock weaving business off the ground and invest in raw materials for the coming year!
