A loan helped to buy more cereals from smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her income.

Rita's story

Rita is a 52-year-old Mozambican woman living in Chimoio City, Manica Province.

Every day, Rita gets up early in the morning to travel to other communities in order to negotiate better prices for maize crops with smallholder farmers. She has worked in this business for many years and, thanks to this, she has been able to improve her well-being.

In 2020, Rita had the opportunity to participate in some of iDE's trainings and, from that day, her vision about business changed. She is now able to record her sales and to distinguish revenue from profit, which makes her more confident to increase the volume of the business.

Thanks to her first Kiva loan, Rita was able to increase her portfolio of clients as well as her business volume.

Now, she intends to continue to regularly supply high-quality cereals to her current and new clients.

For this reason, Rita is requesting another Kiva loan to buy more cereals from smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her income.
