Joan's Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Joan's Group's story

Pictured above is Joan, often described as an extremely hardworking individual. She is 46 years old, is married and has 3 children.

As the group leader, she represents her group of 9 farmers in Matete District, Kenya.

Joan is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund. This means she will be able to earn enough to feed her family, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Joan says that she is happy to have made this decision. Since she first joined in 2017, she has learnt a lot from farming trainings, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Joan will use the profits from this season to send her children to school.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 2.75 acres. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will have a total of 2 solar lights.
