Thanh Luong 48 Group's story

The Thai ethnic minority woman standing the first from the far right in the photo is Thuong, who is 54 and has two sons – one of them is attending school. Thuong was born and raised up in a remote village of Dien Bien province where agriculture is the main source to earn income for the locals, including Thuong.

Twelve years ago, her husband died and she has nurtured two sons alone. In order to have enough money to nurture her children, she has worked very hard in agriculture. Indeed, agricultural production is the main source of income of her family. But the income from agriculture is not stable so her family is still poor and has been recognized as a poor household by the local government. To escape the vicious circle of poverty, she has taken out the loan in the Anh Chi Em Program to have enough cash to buy piglets.

Thuong believes that she will overcome the difficulties with the support of the agricultural workers of Anh Chi Em, and then, she could improve significantly the earnings for her family. She shared that her dream is having a steady house for her and her children.
