Canton Dolores Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more hens and feed.

Canton Dolores Group's story

Cecilia, a 24-year-old married mother of 2 children (3 and 5 years old) leads a very busy life with 3 businesses! For 3 years, she has sold shoes and has a fingernail business. Recently, she bought laying hens to raise. Her husband is a policeman with the national police force. Cecilia has decided it is time to expand her flock of hens and so she is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy more hens.

Seven women have elected Cecilia to be the President of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Canton Dolores” in a coastal area in the department/state of Retalhuleu. They sell prepared foods, personal care products, plastic containers, American clothing and delicious regional snack foods. Another has a small cafe in a local market. They learn to manage their businesses in their monthly educational sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Topics are relevant to their lives and drawn from 4 areas: business, health, women’s issues, and family matters. This is a very helpful part of the program since the ladies have little or no formal education. Cecilia is the exception because she has a high school diploma. Every other month, they have access to basic healthcare services, exams and consults. A visiting nurse makes them feel comfortable and also shares information about the pandemic and vaccines.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for the vital role you play in the lives of Cecilia and her friends. With your help, they are opening doors to a brighter future!
