Nisachol's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy supplies ensuring her hammock weaving business continues smoothly despite global economic uncertainty.

Nisachol's story

Nisachol has never had a day of formal education. Growing up in a rural hill tribe village in the 1980s and 90s, she didn’t have access to schools, and her family needed her to work in the fields to ensure their survival. She felt this limitation severely as forest life changed in her adulthood.

When the government began to enforce forest restrictions on their farming, Nisachol and her husband needed a new way to earn income to remain in the village with their extended family. They have six children between the ages of 3 and 15, so there are many mouths to feed at home.

Hammock weaving was a perfect solution for her. She can't read her hammock designs, but her oldest daughter helps her learn them, and she's able to memorize all the patterns after a few hammocks.

After years of struggle, she finally sees a stable path forward for her family. Nisachol was visited by a Kiva fellow since her original loan and proudly showed off how she's expanded her weaving to include sewing. Now she's eager to use this loan to get even further ahead.

This loan will help Nisachol stabilize her hammock weaving income by ensuring she has supplies and yarn to weave consistently through the coming year.
