Zafiro Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more chickens and corn in bulk.

Zafiro Group's story

Silvia is a dedicated mother to two children, ages fifteen and eleven; she is married. The family lives in a rural area in Chimaltenango state/department. Silvia's husband works as a builder. Silvia has a sixth-grade education. She works very hard so that her children can receive a primary education. Ten years ago, Silvia started her business raising and selling chickens. She now also sews blouses and sells corn. Silvia is applying for her third Kiva loan in order to buy more chickens and corn in bulk.

Silvia is part of the "Zafiro" loan group at Friendship Bridge. There are seven other members of the group who live in Chimaltenango state/department. They have different businesses, including for poultry, selling firewood, and sewing blouses. The women look forward to their monthly meetings, where they give and receive mutual support, make loan payments, and participate in training. The training topics are important for the members and are themed around business, family, women and health. Every two months, a nurse offers services via telephone, including checking blood pressure and sugar levels, breast exams, cervical smears and more. Friendship Bridge calls this combination of loans, education and health care "Micro-Loan Plus".

The Kiva lenders, associated with Friendship Bridge, are much appreciated by Silvia and her friends. Thank you to each one of you for your kindness and generosity!
