Marisa's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped us purchase an oven to grow our small bakery.

Marisa's story

As a self-proclaimed chocoholic, and as a young girl, it was evident from an early age that I was destined for a career in food. I graduated from the California Culinary Academy’s Baking and Pastry Arts program shortly after high school and went on to spend the greater part of the next fifteen years making, eating, talking, and thinking about food. Over the years, I prioritized working for restaurants that shared my vision for seasonal cooking and organic agriculture. As a longtime vegetarian working in fancy kitchens, I eventually became disillusioned with the heavy reliance that the fine-dining industry placed on animal ingredients, and I wanted to find another way to share my love for baking, and the environment. In 2019, I moved to Portland and fell in love with the vibrant farmers market community here. I founded Orange & Blossom Patisserie that same year and in June of 2020, began selling plant-based desserts at a small local farmers market, baking out of a shared kitchen. I created Orange & Blossom with the mission to create unique and seasonally inspired vegan desserts and pastries that support our local food economy and the environment. It brings me so much joy to be able to make wholesome vegan pastries that are changing the way people feel about vegan foods.
