A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to enable her to improve her production.

Josphine's story

Josphine has a great history of valor, perseverance and determination in farming. She is a middle-aged, inspiring farmer who lives in Kapsabet area of Kenya. Josphine is married to a hard-working and enterprising man who helps her in the daily farm duties. The union has been blessed with children who attend school. She and her husband use the little profits obtained from locally selling milk and crops to pay for their children's school fees. Though she faced life on the blunt edge, she never lost her hope of always wanting to succeed. Josphine started farming with the aim of empowering people to live a healthier life by providing them with food. Her determination to persist without giving up hope is her major weapon in fighting poverty. The biggest constraint to the success of Josphine is the use of poor-quality fertilizer and the lack of certified seeds. She is seeking this loan to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to enable her to improve her production. She will generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate the quality of life for her family. Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers in Kapsabet now can buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.
