Las Amigas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy ingredients for her delicious breads.

Las Amigas Group's story

The intoxicating smell of freshly baked bread draws customers to the bread business of 29-year-old Wendy. Her husband is a baker and the couple has a brick oven to bake their popular loaves. The couple began this business nine years ago and now has five employees who deliver the freshly baked loaves throughout their community. Wendy and her husband travel outside of the community to deliver bread to grateful customers. They have 2 children, aged 18 months and 9 years. With her second Kiva loan, Wendy can buy more ingredients (flour, sugar, lard) for their bread. This is especially important at this time of the year with holidays coming in December and January.

Wendy is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Amigas” located in a coastal area in the department/state of Suchitepequez. There are six other ladies in the group who sell icy treats, drinks, prepared foods, cosmetics, and toys. Another woman has a minibus and transports workers to a banana farm. They appreciate participating in the “Microcredit Plus” program of the organization that gives them access to loans, monthly educational sessions (health, family, women issues, business) and healthcare services. The “Health for Life” program is crucial, providing each woman with the opportunity to meet with a visiting nurse who offers all kinds of exams, consults, and services.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for funding these much-needed loans!
