A loan helped a woman-owned sports facility serve & empower young women.
Hello, I’m Megan owner of The Warehouse of Softball in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I grew up in Texas playing multiple sports through my childhood. I played college softball at Baylor University where I earned my two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and Psychology and a Master of Science in Sport Pedagogy. At Baylor and Clemson Universities, I worked as a learning specialist in the academic athletic department particularly with students who struggled with learning disabilities or other mental health issues hindering their educational success. In 2015, I came to the University of Arkansas for my doctoral work where I earned my Ph.D. in Health, Sport, and Exercise Science with a concentration in Recreation and Sport Management. I’ve been coaching in many capacities: camps, clinics, assistant coaching positions, and private lessons. Positive and mindful coaching within the realm of sport is of high importance to me, and I believe coaches have a responsibility to foster learning and growth as an athlete and a young woman. My top priority as a coach is building confidence whilst developing physical and mental skills through the game of softball. My true passion is helping others, particularly younger athletes who are impressionable and trying to find their way in the world. Seeing these kids light up when something that they’ve been working on “clicks” when they tell me about the hard conversation they had with parents, or witnessing their confidence grow, is why I do what I do every day. Seeing an athlete find success because of the work they’ve been willing to put in, the vulnerability they’ve embraced, and their fear of failure lessen each time they walk through the door makes me appreciate how incredible my honor is to mentor, lead, and learn from so many unique and remarkable young women.
