A loan helped a Black-owned trucking business start and build generational wealth.
Growing up in the small town of Corrigan, Texas I didn't see many entrepreneurs if any at all. I always knew I wanted to have my own business and work with people from my community, I just never knew how to begin that process. Over the past few years due to layoffs from hurricanes and covid-19, I've realized more now than ever the importance of having your own business. Having been laid off from my past three jobs, my experience as an employee has made me feel like a number more so than a person. The feeling that I received from those experiences has let me know I never want to feel that again. Not knowing how I'm going to help provide for my fiancé and children is something no parent or spouse should feel. I want my children to know that they can work for themselves without the worries of an employer snatching their livelihood away from them, and I feel the best way of letting them know that is by showing them how it can be done. I have three daughters ages 6, 13, and 17 who look to me for strength, protection, and guidance. I want to leave a strong foundation for them to build on as they get older instead of having them build their own foundation. I never had anyone to show me the steps of building generational wealth, but I want to break that cycle for my family.
